The demand for underfloor heating has increased significantly in the last few years. Underfloor heating can be water or electric system that displaces heat on the entire floor keeping the place nice, warm and comfortable. Wet underfloor heating system is using warm water from the central heating to create the heat. On the other hand an electric system is using coils powered from the mains. Overall this type of heating system comes with many advantages. Firstly it can be very cost effective which means lower heating bills. Secondly it works well under all types of flooring, tiles, wood, concrete and even carpet. Most importantly to insulate the floor before installation is paramount or the heat effect will be much lower.

Certainly for the system to run smoothly, it needs maintenance and therefore an annual service is necessary. Maintenance helps finding possible faults before causing serious problems.
S D Heating & Electrics  installers have the necessary experience and qualifications to talk you through the process and answer all your questions. They will advise of your current heating system and what improvements you can make in order to keep the system running at its best.

Types of underfloor heating

Wet underfloor heating

Wet underfloor heating refers to water going through the pipes laid under the top surface of the floor.
Water heats up at a lower temperature to work efficiently and therefore the cost of water heating is very low.
Similarly an easy installation makes this system favorite to many people. The installer will pull up the floor, fit and connect the pipes, and put the floor back.
We recommend this type of heating system in extensions, new buildings or on the ground floor rooms.

Electric underfloor heating

Electric underfloor heating requires coils attached to the mesh mats that you roll out and connected together under the floor. The installer will then link them up to the thermostat and the mains power supply.
The installation of electric heating system is cheaper compared to wet underfloor heating. But it can be more expensive to run on large areas.
For that reason we recommend this type of heating system for small rooms or offices.

Installation

Whatever heating system you choose, the installer must first insulate the floor properly.

Wet heating system installation involves floor out, lay the pipes and connect the system to main water supply and existent central heating.

Electric heating system installation involves mats being rolled out where/on the areas you want the heat to be. System is then connected to the main electric supply. It also comes with a thermostat.

Important to know

Whichever system you go for as long as it done by a qualified installer, you should not encounter:

  • existence of air in the pipes in a wet heating system
  • faulty wiring in the electric heating system
