What is powerflush?
Powerflush is the cleansing process of limescale, sludge and debris that build-up in the central heating system over the years. Powerflush helps the heating system work efficiently and evenly distribute the heat in the property.
The debris that build up in time can cause serious blockages will eventually lead to costly breakdown.
When the powerflush is necessary?
What is happening during the process?
Signs that the heating system needs a powerflush:
- water is not coming out when bleeding a radiator
- pipe is hot but the bottom part of the radiators is cold
- noise from the boiler, radiators or the heating system pump
- heating the premises takes longer than usual
- the presence of limescale in the system makes tap water look cloudy
- minor leaks in radiators
- boiler shuts down too often?
- water is not clear when bleeding the radiators
If the heating system shows some of the above signs, it is clear that the system needs a powerflush.
The gas engineer will connect the cables of the powerflush machine to the boiler and will pump in the system chemicals for sludge, descaler for limescale and corrosion inhibitor. Check gas registration here

How much does it cost?
The price really depends on the size of the heating system, number of radiators and the chemicals used for the cleansing process. The more slime and debris in the heating system, the more chemicals will be used to clean the system.
Once heating system is clean, it will definitely improve the energy efficiency and will reduce the chances of having a breakdown.

How long does the process of cleansing take?
The powerflush process can take from a couple of hours, for a 2 bedroom house or flat, to several hours, for a 4-5 bedroom house, and even longer for larger premises. It all depends on the type of the heating system.
