What happens during boiler services/repair?

The gas engineer will check your boiler for any leaks, especially carbon monoxide which everybody knows how dangerous this gas can be. It is odourless and tasteless and can not be detected without special equipment. Being exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide can lead to death.
Therefore the gas pressure is part of the service, to ensure the boiler is running at the right pressure. Using a flue gas analyser, gas engineer will carry out a flue test to detect any dangerous emissions.

Boiler components like heat exchanger, burner, main injector can cause a breakdown if not running properly. For that reason the boiler components are included in the service to prevent any breaking down at a later point in time.
Having your boiler serviced will give you the peace of mind that your heating system is running properly and there are no working faults.

Boiler breakdown

Boiler, like any other item in our homes, is not built to last for ever.
When the boiler gets to a certain age, things start to go wrong. Rust and corrosion can damage boiler’s components, connections, pipes and that will eventually cause a break down.
Regardless the type of boiler you have, our experienced gas engineers have the skills and knowledge to diagnose, fix or replace the broken component. The cost of a breakdown depends on many factors such as age and type of boiler, whether a major part broke down or a minor one.

Gas leak pipes

Do Not Panic if you smell gas!

You should:

  • let the fresh air in by opening all the doors and windows
  • turn the gas supply off from the mains, if it’s safe and you know how
  • leave the property, and from a safe distance call National Gas Emergency Helpline on 0800 111 999 24/7.

You should not:

  • use anything electrical or anything that can cause a spark
  • strike matches
  • smoke

The spark can cause gas to catch fire. Gas leak can cause fire or explosion if it has built up to an extremely dangerous level.
